The tech industry has a long history of terminology inflation—remember when everything was a "cloud" or a "blockchain"? Eventually, the hype exhausts itself, funding dries up, and we're left with actual applications of the technology. The sooner the AI industry moves past the "AGI by 2030" countdown clock, the faster we can get to serious work on the capabilities that actually matter.

LeBrun could be raising money on AGI fever dreams like some competitors. Instead, he's betting that grounded, technically honest communication about what world models can accomplish will serve better in the long run.
It's a refreshing stance in an ecosystem where every funding round announcement includes references to existential possibilities and paradigm shifts. Sometimes, the most confidence a researcher can express is the confidence to say: "Here's what we built, here's what it does, here's what we still need to figure out."
The Industry's Inflection Point
Whether LeBrun's approach becomes the industry standard or remains an outlier will say something important about AI's maturation. The field is at an inflection point—old enough to produce genuinely powerful tools, young enough that hype still drives significant funding.
